COMPETITION RULES

THIS COMPETITION IS OPEN TO NEWFOUNDLAND, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, NOVA SCOTIA, NEW BRUNSWICK, QUEBEC, ONTARIO, MANITOBA, SASKATCHEWAN, ALBERTA, BRITISH COLUMBIA, AND YUKON TERRITORY RESIDENTS ONLY
AND IS GOVERNED BY CANADIAN LAW

1. COMPETITION PERIOD:

The Farm Your Numbers Competition (the “Competition”) begins on August 7, 2020 at 09:00 AM Eastern Time (“EDT”) and ends on September 29, 2020 at 5:00 PM EDT (the “Competition Period”).

2. ELIGIBILITY:

Competition is open to all legal residents of Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, and Yukon Territory who have reached the legal age of majority in their province/territory of residence at the time of entry, except employees, representatives or agents (and those with whom such persons are domiciled, whether related or not) of Royal Bank of Canada (the “Sponsor”), its subsidiaries, affiliates, prize suppliers, advertising/promotion agencies and any entity involved in the development, production, implementation, administration, judging or fulfillment of the Competition (collectively, the “Competition Parties”).

3. HOW TO ENTER:

To enter, go to https://cyff.ca/fyn-competition-entry/ (the “Website”) and obtain the Official Competition Entry Form (the “Entry Form”) during the Competition Period. Fully complete the Entry Form with all required information, which requires you to:

  • write a 500 or less word response to each of the following two questions (for a total of 1000 words or less):
  1. What is your vision for your future in agriculture?
  2. What do you think the benefits are in participating in the Farm Your Numbers Program?

OR

  • upload a video in which you verbally respond to the above two questions (maximum 10 minutes in length)
  • enter your personal information including full name, valid email address, telephone number, and postal code;
  • enter any non-mandatory information including your business name and the types of commodities you farm;
  • confirm that you are the age of majority in your province/territory of residence at the time of entry;
  • confirm whether you are a client of the Sponsor (your response will not influence whether or not you win); and
  • signify your agreement that you have read and agree to be legally bound by the terms and conditions of these Official Rules (the “Rules”).

Once you have fully completed the Entry Form with all required information, follow the on-screen instructions to complete your entry (the “Entry”). To be eligible, your Entry must be submitted and received within the Competition Period.

There is a limit of one (1) Entry per person/email address permitted during the Competition Period. For greater certainty and the avoidance of any doubt, you can only use one (1) email address to enter the Competition. If it is discovered by the Sponsor (using any evidence or other information made available to or otherwise discovered by the Sponsor) that any person has attempted to: (i) obtain more than one (1) Entry per person/email address during the Competition Period; and/or (ii) use (or attempt to use) multiple names, identities email addresses and/or any automated, macro, script, robotic or other system(s) or program(s) to enter or otherwise participate in or disrupt this Competition; then he/she may be disqualified from the Competition in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor. Your Entry may be rejected if (in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor) the Entry Form is not fully completed with all required information and submitted and received during the Competition Period. The Released Parties (defined below) are not responsible for late, lost, misdirected, delayed, incomplete or incompatible Entries (all of which are void).

All Entries are subject to verification at any time and for any reason. The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to require proof of identity and/or eligibility (in a form acceptable to the Sponsor – including, without limitation, government issued photo identification): (i) for the purposes of verifying an individual’s eligibility to participate in this Competition; (ii) for the purposes of verifying the eligibility and/or legitimacy of an Entry entered (or purportedly entered) for the purposes of this Competition; and/or (iii) for any other reason the Sponsor deems necessary, in its sole and absolute discretion, for the purposes of administering this Competition in accordance with these Rules. Failure to provide such proof to the satisfaction of the Sponsor in a timely manner may result in disqualification in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor. The sole determinant of the time for the purposes of a valid Entry in this Competition will be the Competition server machine(s).

4. THE PRIZE AND APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUE:

There will be 51 prizes available to be won each consisting of either…

  • 11 prizes of 1 free registration to the 2020-21 Farm Your Numbers Program and travel and accommodation to the 2021 CYFF National Young Farmers Forum with a total approximate retail prize value of $2750 CDN per prize (approximate cumulative value of $30,250 CDN, and based on a Toronto departure) (the “Prize”). Participants must be available to travel and attend training sessions (February 17th – 22nd, 2021 unless Covid regulations prevent travel or in-person events).
    Each Prize includes: 1 round trip economy airfare from a major Canadian airport closest to the Prize winner’s place of residence in Canada (the “Departure Point”); 5 nights shared accommodations (based on one room, double occupancy) participants may choose single occupancy, however will be responsible for the difference in cost for single occupancy accommodations, at a hotel selected by Sponsor; and 1 ticket to the 2021 CYFF National Young Farmers Forum. 

            Or

  • 40 prizes of free enrollment into the CYFF Farm Your Numbers Introductory on-Line Virtual Training Program Course.

Prize winner is solely responsible for all costs not expressly described herein including, without limitation, applicable taxes, fuel/currency surcharges, ground transportation, meals and beverages, parking fees, except those provided during the CYFF National Young Farmers Forum, room service, gratuities, merchandise, telephone calls, insurance together with any required travel documentation, and all personal expenses of any kind or nature, together with an applicable overnight layover.  Flight dates and hotel accommodation are subject to change without notice or compensation.  Prize winner is also solely responsible for all costs incurred to and from the Departure Point as the Prize originates and terminates there.  It is the sole responsibility of the Prize winner to obtain all necessary travel documentation. Prize winner must be able to travel at the times and dates determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion failing which, the Prize will be forfeited.

No change in travel arrangements can be made by a Prize winner once the booking has been confirmed.  The Prize may not be used towards any type of frequent flyer mileage, or other reward point accumulation program.

Prize must be accepted as awarded and is not transferable, assignable or convertible to cash (except as may be specifically permitted by Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion). No substitutions except at Sponsor’s option. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to substitute the Prize or a component thereof with a prize of equal or greater value, including, without limitation, but at Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion, a cash award. Prize will only be awarded to the person whose verifiable full name and valid email address appears on the Entry Form.

5. WINNER SELECTION:

Between September 16, 2020 and October 14, 2020 (the “Judging Period”) a panel of 3 judges (the “Judging Panel”) will review all eligible Entries submitted and received during the Competition Period in accordance with these Rules and will select 1 winner from each eligible province/territory (for a total of 11 winners). The Judging Panel will consist of 1 member who is a past alumni of the Canadian Young Farmers’ Forum (“CYFF”), 1 member from the Sponsor, and 1 member who is a Farm Your Numbers course facilitator. All Entries will be evaluated by the Judging Panel based on the evaluation criteria set out below, and whose decisions shall be final, binding, and not subject to review.

Evaluation Criteria

  1. Demonstrates a passion for the farming industry and a desire to pursue a career in agriculture (weighted at 50%).
  2. Demonstrates a need for training in agriculture by articulating how the Farm Your Numbers Program may progress a farmer’s business (weighted at 50%).

The Sponsor or its designated representative will make a minimum of 3 attempts to contact each selected entrant (using the information provided on the Entry Form) within 5 business days of the Judging Period. If a selected entrant cannot be contacted within 5 business days of the Judging Period, or if there is a return of any notification as undeliverable; then he/she may, in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor, be disqualified (and, if disqualified, will forfeit all rights to the Prize) and the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion and time permitting, to select an alternate eligible entrant from among the remaining eligible Entries (in which case the foregoing provisions of this section shall apply to such newly selected entrant).

BEFORE BEING DECLARED THE CONFIRMED PRIZE WINNER, each selected entrant will be required to:

  • Sign and return within 5 business days of notification the Sponsor’s declaration and release form, which (among other things): (a) confirms compliance with these Rules; (b) acknowledges acceptance of the Prize as awarded; (c) releases the Competition Parties and each of their respective officers, directors, agents, representatives, successors and assigns (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from any and all liability in connection with this Competition, his/her participation therein and/or the awarding and use/misuse of the Prize or any portion thereof; and (d) agrees to the publication, reproduction and/or other use of his/her name, business name, business profile, address, voice, statements about the Competition and/or photograph or other likeness without further notice or compensation, in any publicity or advertisement carried out by or on behalf of the Sponsor in any manner whatsoever, including print, broadcast or the internet in perpetuity.
  • Consent to the profiling of himself/herself and his/her business in the Sponsor’s marketing and promotional material, in the Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion; and
  • Agree to meet with an RBC Commercial Account Manager in his/her region.

If the selected entrant: (a) fails to return the properly executed Competition documents within the specified time; (b) cannot accept (or is unwilling to accept) the Prize as awarded for any reason; and/or (c) is determined to be in violation of these Rules (all as determined by the Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion); then he/she may, in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor, be disqualified (and, if disqualified, will forfeit all rights to the Prize) and the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion and time permitting, to select an alternate eligible entrant from among the remaining eligible Entries (in which case the foregoing provisions of this section shall apply to such newly selected entrant);

6. CONSENT TO SEND COMMERCIAL ELECTRONIC MESSAGES:

By entering this Competition, each entrant permits the Sponsor, its agents, promotional agencies, representatives and Competition judges to collect the information submitted with your entry and to use it to administer the Competition. If you have also consented to the use of your personal information for marketing and promotional purposes, you agree that the Sponsor may send you offers, promotions and information about its products and services. The Sponsor may communicate with you through various channels, including email, telephone, social media or mail, using the contact information you have provided. We will respect your preferences otherwise recorded with us. You may withdraw your consent at any time. 7. GENERAL CONDITIONS:

All Entries become the property of the Sponsor. This Competition is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws. The decisions of the Sponsor with respect to all aspects of this Competition are final and binding on all entrants without right of appeal, including, without limitation, any decisions regarding the eligibility/disqualification of Entries and/or entrants. By participating in this Competition, you are agreeing to be legally bound by the terms and conditions of these Rules. ANYONE DETERMINED TO BE IN VIOLATION OF THESE RULES FOR ANY REASON IS SUBJECT TO DISQUALIFICATION IN THE SOLE AND ABSOLUTE DISCRETION OF THE SPONSOR AT ANY TIME.

The Released Parties will not be liable for: (i) any technical malfunction or other problems relating to the online Entry Form, telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment or software; (iii) the failure of any Entry to be received, captured or recorded for any reason, including, but not limited to, technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website; (iv) any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer or other device related to or resulting from participating in the Competition; and/or (v) any combination of the above.

In the event of a dispute regarding who submitted an Entry, Entries will be deemed to have been submitted by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of entry. “Authorized account holder” is defined as the person who is assigned an email address by an internet provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g. business, educational institute, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. An entrant may be required to provide proof (in a form acceptable to the Sponsor – including, without limitation, government issued photo identification) that he/she is the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the Entry in question.

The Sponsor reserves the right to withdraw, amend or suspend this Competition (or to amend these Rules) in any way, in the event of an error, technical problem, computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure or any other cause beyond the reasonable control of the Sponsor that interferes with the proper conduct of this Competition as contemplated by these Rules. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Competition in any way (as determined by Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion) is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, the Sponsor reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law. The Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, amend or suspend this Competition, or to amend these Rules, in any way without prior notice or obligation, in the event of any accident, printing, administrative, or other error of any kind, or for any other reason whatsoever.

The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, and without prior notice, to adjust any of the dates and/or timeframes stipulated in these Rules, to the extent necessary, for purposes of verifying compliance by any entrant or Entry with these Rules, or as a result of any technical or other problems, or in light of any other circumstances which, in the opinion of the Sponsor, in its sole and absolute discretion, affect the proper administration of the Competition as contemplated in these Rules, or for any other reason.

In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of these English Rules and disclosures or other statements contained in any Competition-related materials, including, but not limited to: the Entry Form, French version of these Rules, and/or point of sale, television, print or online advertising, if applicable; the terms and conditions of these English Rules shall prevail, govern and control to the fullest extent permitted by law.
